Mike Eckers returns to present a program talking about the Lewis and Clark Corp of Discovery. Merriweather Lewis, personal secretary to President Thomas Jefferson, and William Clark, former Army officer and brother to George Rogers Clark, were tasked with exploring a path across the continent from St Louis to the Pacific Ocean. The intent was to establish trade with native tribes and to find out just what the land, waters and animals of this unmapped region contained. A year after President Jefferson directed Lewis with this assignment, the United States bought the Louisiana Purchase from France’s Napoleon Bonaparte. This created an even greater need for the exploration… what came to be known as The Lewis and Clark Expedition. Join us for the this historical program to wrap up the 2019 Summer Reading Program. Free to the public!
