If you don’t have a library card, stop in and get one today. It is free!

 

Please note: Library cards that are expired, over the max fine, or have a delinquent status may not be able to access some of these resources until their accounts are cleared. These eResources are available for free to all Sioux Center and rural Sioux County card holders. Others may purchase a full-access library card for a low annual fee to use these eResources.

Cloud Library (used to be 3M)

3M is a library of e-books that the Sioux Center Public Library has purchased. The books may be checked out for 2 weeks and return automatically after that time. With shorter hold lists than Wilbor and a user-friendly interface, 3M provides a pleasurable reading experience. There is a limit of 3 books at a time. Instructions for KindleFire.

Hoopla 

With hoopla you’ll soon be streaming or downloading movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows for free to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV! With no waiting, titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. Lending periods: books for 3 weeks, music albums for 1 week, TV & movies for 2-3 days depending on the title. hoopla is like having your public library at your fingertips. Anytime. Anywhere. Three downloads a month are available for residents of Sioux Center & rural Sioux County.

Note: if you are registering for a Hoopla account on a mobile device, you must download the app first and register from within the app.

Overdrive and Libby (Bridges)

Overdrive & Libby (Bridges) offer eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines. There is a limit of 3 books at a time, but magazines there is no limit to the magazines.  All materials return automatically after 2 weeks. In addition to the full collection, Overdrive has dedicated kids and teen reading rooms, so that your children see age-appropriate content.

New app: Libby by OverDrive is designed to make borrowing even easier and allows you to store multiple libraries and library cards in the same app. Please note that certain formats such as PDF are currently not available in the Libby app.

rbdigital (OneClick Digital and Zinio)

rbdigital is a collection of eAudiobooks, eBooks, eMagazines, and streaming video. This one app combines the old OneClick Digital app and the Zinio magazines app. Books (both eBooks and eAudiobooks) can be read or listened to in the browser, or downloaded for offline use. These items check out for 2 weeks at a time, but are renewable. New bestsellers are added quarterly. eMagazines are available to read online or download. There is no limit to how many magazines you may download and you do not have to return them. You’ll never have to wait for a magazine! NEW FEATURE: Streaming video on demand is now available by checking out a 7 day license. The streaming video channels available include Acorn TV, IndieFlix, Qello Concerts, Pongalo, and the Great Courses. View course titles.

TumbleMath is a collection of animated talking picture books on math topics. The books are all accompanied by supplementary materials such as lesson plans, instructional videos, educational games, plus quizzes on the math topics covered. Credo Reference is a collection of full text reference books and articles for middle school students, high school students, college students, and adults. Full text encyclopedias and DK Eyewitness books are available. It also includes a brainstorming tool to help develop and define research topics. This resource also includes images and some short videos that can be used for educational and research purposes.

Search newspaper archives of Sioux County newspapers. Among the included papers are the Sioux center News, Hawarden Independent, Alton Democrat, Rock Valley Bee, Sioux County Index Reporter, Ireton Examiner, Sioux County Capital Democrat, Sioux County Herald, Hull Index, Sibley Gazette, and Hospers Tribune. Go to the site to see a full list of papers and years.

dlDriving-Tests.org, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, to offers free DMV practice tests to library patrons. It includes free tests, written specifically based on the state DMV materials, and is the only site of its kind to include accessibility tools that allow users to hear selections read aloud, make them into MP3s, translate pages into other languages, magnify text, and mask sections of the screen for greater visibility on driving practice tests.

Wilson’s is a selective list of books (both fiction and nonfiction) recommended for various age groups. These collections provide a valuable guide for collection development and maintenance.
