During the month of September we are participating in a Global Cardboard Challenge which invites groups of people around the world to design and build awesome creations using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination. The challenge will culminate in aGlobal Day of Play on October 5th, marking the 2nd anniversary of the short film “Caine’s Arcade”, celebrating the creativity and imagination of children around the world. Check the website www.cardboardchallenge.com to view the short video. We are asking families, businesses, youth groups, school classes, and other groups to build cardboard creations and bring them to Sioux Center Public Library on Saturday October, 5 between 10 AM and Noon. These creations could include: costumes, inventions, and/or arcade games that children could play for a minimal cost. Doors will open to a Community Day of Play from 1:00 – 4:00 PM for games, popcorn, and fun. The proceeds for the day will go to Stepping Stones Preschool. A registration form will be available to download from the library website or can be picked up at the library. Check the website or Facebook page for a list of participating businesses that have available cardboard and days and times you can pick them up. Help us engage 1 Million Kids in 70 Countries in Creative Play.

While enjoying the arcade, stop by the Children’s Book Swap.  Now through October 1, books will be collected at the Sioux Center Public Library in return for a voucher to use on October 5 to pick up some “new-to-you” children’s books. We are looking for gently-used books from Board books to Young Adult for swapping!  This is a great opportunity to switch out your child’s collection for the next reading level while clearing your book shelves at no cost!  See the library for more information.
